First thing to know: Mabel is odd. Very, very odd.
For the most part, what you see is what you get with Mabel. She has a very extrovert personality: she’s cheerful, energetic, optimistic, loud, fearless, and several other positive sounding adjectives. She’s the type of girl who tries to be nice to everyone she meets, with a bright smile on her face and the inclination to always tell the truth. No, really. She is a terrible liar and will more often blurt out whatever she’s trying to cover up. She is also the kind of person who can’t stand bullies, and will take a stand against them
Oh yeah, she’s also a major cloudcucklolander. Her way of thinking is…unconventional to say the least. It’s not uncommon to see her do very silly things with little provocation. Let’s say for example: rolling on the ground while giggling, or making chips into earrings, or folding a treasure map into a hat, or take a pig and make it her beloved pet, or give a cute guy a wet sandwich, or throw random dance parties for no reason, or I can keep going if you really want me too but I think the point is made. And because of her upbeat attitude, she never finds her behavior particularly odd. It’s just the ways she is and everyone else can deal with it. Which they do, as it’s usually more endearing than weird. Except for the most popular girl in town, Pacifica, but Mabel is more than content hanging out with the outcasts like Soos, Candy Chiu, and Grenda instead of stuck up people. There was a time when she felt embarrassed about her own silliness when it was publicly mocked, but she came to realize that was what made Mabel Mabel.
She’s a preteen girl in an age filled with beauty magazines, bad romance novels, and the town of Gravity Falls. To say none of this comes together in some way, well you haven’t met this girl. Actually it’s likely because of those crappy vampire books that Mabel is very easy to accept the weird things that go around in the small Oregon town, as she was hoping her first crush of the summer was a vampire when Dipper brought it up. Though, that turned out to be a clan of gnomes that wanted her to be their new queen, but ce’lavi. She’s not the type to be broken up for long about a failed romantic conquest, since she can be seen flirting with a new boy almost immediately. Not to say she has zero standards in that regard; good looking or mysterious or both seem to be her common targets for her attempts for an epic summer romance. And she won’t give up so easily on her goal.
Mabel fancies herself as a master of arts and crafts. It’s not unusual to catch her spending her free hours knitting up a new sweater, scrapbooking, or even messing around with her bezzazler gun. And, given the high quality of her work, that title isn’t lost on her. Besides the instances where her work is commissioned, most of her pieces are bright, colorful, and filled with her own charms. And when given the chance, she’ll use plenty of glitter.
In many ways, she is alike and unlike her twin brother Dipper, whom she shares her closest relationship with. But despite their differences in personality, it’s very clear that the two love and care for eachother, each willing to sacrifice something they want just to keep the other happy. Sure, they argue and bicker, but what sibling doesn’t? They might be stubborn about the issue at first, but in the end they both know they are better together than they are at being mad at eachother. In other words, she’s the red oni to his blue oni.
